FAQ
Thread & Gather is a premium, in-home mobile textile experience for small groups of 4 to 6 people in the Greater Portland area. We blend upscale, tactile creation with mindful human connection, giving friends a beautiful reason to gather, unplug, and create something lasting together.
We view it as a creative social gathering rather than a rigid class. While you will absolutely learn beautiful finishing techniques, our unique rhythm uses only two sewing machines. This ensures that while two guests are stitching, the others are free to socialize, share snacks, and connect—completely removing the stressful, frantic energy of a traditional classroom.
A standard Thread & Gather experience takes about three hours. This unhurried timeframe allows everyone to comfortably complete their piece without rushing, leaving plenty of room for genuine conversation and relaxed hospitality.
We proudly bring our mobile studio directly to your home in the Greater Portland, Oregon metro area, servicing Troutdale, Gresham, Happy Valley, Clackamas, Beaverton, Lake Oswego, Oregon City, West Linn, Tigard, and Tualatin.
No. At this time, Thread & Gather only operates within the state of Oregon and does not service Vancouver or Washington State due to cross-state licensing restrictions.
Yes! While we focus on our core metro cities, we love to travel. Gatherings outside our standard radius can be accommodated for an additional flat concierge travel fee to cover time and transport.
Not at all. Our experiences are specifically engineered to be deeply rewarding for absolute beginners while remaining engaging for seasoned makers. Your guide handles every technical detail and provides patient, gentle, step-by-step attention at the machine.
No. We handle everything. We provide premium, easy to use sewing machines, professional-grade cutting tools, custom-designed patterns, and luxury textiles.
You do not need to own a single needle.
To ensure a high-end finished piece, we strictly avoid cheap craft-store materials. We source curated, premium textiles like European-style linens, fine imported Japanese cotton prints, woven structural stabilizers, smooth-gliding genuine YKK zippers, heritage waxed canvas, genuine leather handles, and solid metal rivets.
Not at all. Our gatherings are entirely calm by design. There are no chaotic, messy setups, and zero cleanup for you to worry about. We bring professional table protection, handle every piece of fabric debris, and manage the complete cleanup. We go through safe use of machines and tools before be begin. Our precut kits are not only convenient, they remove the need to wield sharp cutting tools. We provide eye and hearing protection when setting rivets, and we utilize premium nylon zippers to eliminate the risk of needle shattering, ensuring the process remains safe, structured, and entirely approachable.
Hosting is simple and low-stress. You only need to provide a standard dining table or kitchen island that comfortably fits half of your 4 to 6 guests at a time, at least one standard wall outlet nearby, and good overhead lighting. Your primary job is the hospitality—providing the drinks and snacks!
